Ready to paint MDF Panels & Cut to Size
Some medium-density fibreboard hides out of the way at the back of kitchen cabinets or behind walls. But a lot of it needs to be visible. For that reason, it requires painting.
Unfortunately, painting MDF panels can be challenging. Preparation can be time-consuming. And without pre-treatment, results are often poor.
That’s where our ready-to-paint MDF panels come to the fore. These give you the freedom to experiment with interior design ideas and create the look you want while still benefiting from the unique properties of MDF.
Ready-to-paint MDF panels have a backing film or primer. This makes them easier to seal and coat.
Key Features of Ready to Paint MDF Panels
Painting MDF panels isn’t always easy. It requires an MDF primer, an undercoat and then a second coat (and sometimes more beyond that). Sanding MDF after the first coat is a hassle. It requires you to wear a mask, brush off dust, and wipe down the wood with a rag dipped in white spirit.
If edges are visible, there’s extra work involved in creating a smooth surface, usually with the help of wood filler. So, again, it’s not easy.
But ready-to-paint products are different. They feature an MDF surface that has already been prepared, unlike standard MDF.
Here are some features of ready-to-paint MDF panels in our collection:
- Lightweight

FAQs
What is ready-to-paint medium-density fibreboard?
MDF stands for medium-density fibreboard. Because of the way that it is made, it is hard to paint. Wood fibres absorb acrylic and water-based paint, producing lacklustre results.
Ready-to-paint MDF is different. It comes with a film that accommodates paint even better than regular wood. When painted, you can hardly tell it’s MDF.
MDF primers are different from conventional primers. It is low-odour and quick-drying, producing a smooth finish when you apply the subsequent top coat. Importantly, it doesn’t need to be sanded. Two coats should do the trick.
How can I cut MDF sheets?
Cutting MDF sheets yourself can be challenging. Fortunately, with us, you don’t need to do it yourself. We cut sheets for you to sub-millimetre accuracy and then ship them to your location. Next working day delivery is available when you come to us.
What do I need for painting MDF?
You can use either oil or water-based paint for painting MDF. However, you need to be careful. MDF requires preparation first. You should not paint directly onto it. If you are unsure what to do, use a ready-to-paint product.
What is moisture-resistant MDF?
Moisture-resistant MDF (MR MDF) is a type of medium-density fibreboard that contains more wax than a standard MDF board. It may also have a lacquered or melamine layer to keep moisture out.
